The studio
A small, independent studio. We work with a few companies at a time, on a fixed scope for a fixed fee.
We are writers and researchers who also design and build websites and publications. Most projects start with conversations with customers, and everything we write goes through several drafts before anyone else sees it.
We are independent. We don’t belong to a holding company and we don’t take commissions on media, so we have no reason to recommend anything except what we think will work.
We are small on purpose. The people you meet are the people who do the work, and we take on only a few engagements at a time, so each one gets our full attention.
And we are optimistic, which in this business takes some effort. We think most companies have a better story than the one they are telling, and that it can be found.
How an engagement runs
- 1.
A letter
You write to us about what you are working on and what is getting in the way.
- 2.
A conversation
We talk for about forty-five minutes. We won’t present a deck; we will mostly ask questions.
- 3.
A proposal
A short written proposal follows: the catalog entries we would use, the scope, the fixed fee, and the dates.
- 4.
The work
You get written notes every week, so you always know what we have learned and what we are deciding.
- 5.
The review
At the end we meet to compare what we expected with what happened, and to agree on what to do next.
The catalog lists everything we offer. The method explains why we work this way.
